When it comes to maintaining a healthy home environment, many homeowners focus on surfaces like countertops, carpets, and upholstery. However, one often overlooked aspect of home hygiene is the cleanliness of tile and grout. While these surfaces might seem durable and low-maintenance, they require regular cleaning to ensure a healthy living space. Let’s delve into why tile and grout cleaning is crucial for your home and well-being.
Preventing Mold and Mildew Growth
Tiles, especially in bathrooms and kitchens, are frequently exposed to moisture. This can lead to the growth of mold and mildew, particularly in the porous grout lines. These fungi not only stain your tiles but can also release spores into the air, potentially triggering allergies and respiratory issues. Regular cleaning and sealing of grout can prevent mold and mildew from taking hold and keep your indoor air quality high.
Eliminating Bacteria and Germs
Your kitchen and bathroom are breeding grounds for bacteria and germs. Grout, being porous, easily absorbs spills and dirt, creating a perfect environment for harmful microorganisms to thrive. Regular cleaning with appropriate disinfectants can help to eliminate these germs, reducing the risk of illness and promoting a healthier home environment.
It looks beautiful when clean
Dirty tiles and discolored grout can make even the most beautiful spaces look dingy and unattractive. Regular cleaning not only brightens the appearance of your tiles but also enhances the overall aesthetic appeal of your home. Clean, sparkling tiles can transform your space, making it more inviting and pleasant.
Prolonging Tile Lifespan
Tiles and grout are investments that add value to your home. However, neglecting their maintenance can lead to deterioration and costly repairs. Regular cleaning helps to remove abrasive dirt and grime that can wear down the surface, extending the lifespan of your tiles and keeping your investment intact.
Clean surfaces are just safer
Slippery tiles are a common hazard in homes, particularly in spaces prone to moisture. Dirt and grime can make tiles even more slippery, increasing the risk of slips and falls. Clean tiles provide better traction and reduce the likelihood of accidents, ensuring a safer environment for you and your family.
A little maintenance is better than expensive replacements
While professional cleaning services might seem like an unnecessary expense, they can actually save you money in the long run. Regular maintenance prevents the need for costly repairs or replacements, and professional cleaners have the tools and expertise to clean deeply and efficiently.
So let’s get you a good maintenance plan!
For tile and grout cleaning, the chemicals used to clean are not PH neutral. Applying these chemicals and using them incorrectly will result in additional damage to your shower and are dangerous to work with so we always recommend starting with getting a fresh start cleaning with a professional, even if it’s not us (we will still like you 😂)
After you’ve gotten the shower cleaned we advise you seal it. There are sealers at your local hardware store or if you don’t know how, you can always call us and we will make quick work out of sealing your shower tiles and grout properly. You need to do this every three months.
Clean with neutral cleaners! Do not use BLEACH on tile and grout, it will absolutely destroy your grout! It is a strong alkaline and very corrosive by nature. It will simply dissolve your grout over time, there are better options (see below)

Neutral cleaners need to be used for maintenance cleaning. Zep brand tile and grout cleaner is a gentle and effective solution.
You’ll want to spray down your entire shower with this once every month or so and scrub in places that require special attention although with a good seal, you shouldn’t see much
If you have grout with fading stain, hard water buildup on your tiles, grout or shower glass and want it gone, give us a call and we will get it taken care of quickly and easily at a fair price!
